Writing Ideas

Native Americans may choose to write about their culture. When explaining your culture, include the sights, sounds, smells, touch and tastes of a specific place. Who hasn't walked into a Pow Wow and been impressed by the bright colors of regalia, the smells of fry bread and the wonderful heart beat sound of a large drum? Listen to the bells of  a small child's jingle dance or the laughter when one family sees someone for the first time in a long time. Touch the softness of an Indian taco and those great smells! Is that a lingering smell of sage, smudged to purify the opening ceremony? Or is it cedar? Be certain to explain how your culture has impacted your life. Who beaded your first regalia? What do you say when someone asks to take pictures of your "costume"? Do you explain the eagle feathers or the colors you wear? Then again, how do you describe the sound of Native Americans singing rich traditional songs? Writing about your Native American culture means to write ideas rich in sights, sounds, smells, touch and taste. It is a culture full of rich, elaborate descriptions!
