My name is Bruce Leonardy and I am so honored and excited to be a new Lodge Director for our school. I will be the Salmon Lodge Director which will oversee our students and staff in grades 3-5. In addition I come to Leschi with a passion for the Performing Arts and will be overseeing Performing Arts Education PreK-12.
I look forward to meeting our students and meeting all of you parents as well. As someone new coming in, I would love for you to know a little about me. I grew up in Bremerton where my father served as a Navy Captain and my mother worked as a Public Health Director. I love and live for my family more than anything else in life. I am married to my beautiful wife, Rebekah, who is an English teacher. I have three girls – Sydney (10), Sasha (6), and Stellyn (4) – who keep me very busy when I am home. This summer we had a special vacation where we drove to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Oregon visiting many family and friends along the way. The photo below was at Yellowstone National Park in early July 2016.
This year begins my 21st year in education, but my first in building level administration. As an educator the majority of my work has been as a secondary music teacher, however I have had the opportunity to teach elementary music all the way up to college level courses. This past year I served as an adjunct professor teaching band for Pierce College. In the past three years my primary job has been in a leadership position as the Arts Coordinator for the Puyallup School District.
I truly am thrilled to be joining the Chief Leschi family. As I meet these young students coming in, I think I am most excited about my own learning. Culture and Arts is my passion and when I first stepped onto this campus it did not take long to see and feel how special this place is. Coming to Circle Time last spring and watching the dance and hearing the beat of the drums made me full aware of the Native Spirit that is alive in our Leschi kids. I look forward to listening and learning so much this year about Native culture.
Chief Leschi is a school that is going in a great direction. Teaching to the whole child with a focus on language and culture and helping Chief Leschi students become great leaders of tomorrow is something I will work tirelessly to do. I look forward to partnering with you parents to make this a great upcoming school year and hopefully building relationships for many years to come. I do believe great things are coming!!
