II.                  SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

 

This position provides caring for the infants, aged 6 weeks – 5 years. This position is responsible for a safe and clean classroom environment. The Daycare Assistant will assist the Lead Teacher in providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum, assessment, educational and non-educational needs of the children enrolled in the learning center. This involves working positively with the child, family and early learning center team members.

 

III.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A.      Essential Functions

 

1.       Classroom Preparation: Will be responsible to open and/or close the center daily (depending on assigned work time). Attendance and punctuality is a must in this position.

2.       Classroom Environment: Will be responsible to ensure the room is clean, safe and hazard free. Checks indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards on a regular basis to meet program standards. Will make sure equipment, toys, and eating areas are sanitized daily.

3.       Health Supervision: Will be responsible for the overall cleanliness of the children and room to meet program standards. Administers first aid if needed or refers child to the school nurse. 

4.       Hygiene Needs: Diaper changing as needed. Will assist children with good practices in potty training (when appropriate) hand washing, tooth brushing, etc.

5.       Educational Needs of children: Will assist the Lead teacher with projects, activities and other educational needs of children as needed.

6.       Guidance: Interacts positively with all children to support their individual learning and meets their emotional needs.

7.       Educational Planning Meetings: Attend educational planning meetings with early learning center team on a regular basis.

8.       Record Keeping: Responsible for parent sign in/out sheets, daily attendance/meal count, snack production records and daily activity sheets on children.   Assists with record keeping on individual children and families as directed by the Lead Teacher. 

9.       Family-Style Meal Services: Prepares and serves snacks and meals; participates in and facilitates mealtime service and joins children at the table for support and conversation.

10.    Supervision: Supervise all children in the room.

11.    Team Player:  Contributes to the development of communication, mutual respect, mutual support, competence, and creativity among all members of the early learning center team.

12.    Professional Development: Participates in all school and STARS trainings, staff meetings and other educational opportunities to gain knowledge throughout the school year.  Must complete 10 clock hours or one college credit of continuing education in early childhood or child development yearly.

13.    Performs other duties as assigned.

B.    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

1.       Attendance and punctuality is a must in this position.

2.       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

3.       Ability to work in a sequential manner using oral and written instructions.

4.       Ability to read and write English

 

IV.                MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.       High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

2.       Twenty-one years of age or older

3.       Two years of successful, relevant, documented work experience in a preschool or childcare setting with children.

4.       Must be willing to complete the STARS program, First Aid, CPR, TB Tine and obtain Food Handlers Card.

5.       Must be able to stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

 

                PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.       Early Childhood Education training or experience

2.       Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate

3.       Two years of successful, relevant, documented work experience in a preschool or childcare setting as a lead teacher.

4.       Experience working with Native American children.
