Special Education Bus Aide

Reports to: D. Division
Building Principal Instruction
Under the lead direction of the building
principal and director of transportation, the job of Special Ed Bus Aide is done for the
purpose/s of assisting students during transport to and from school and /or
special activities: and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned
vehicles.
A.
Essential Functions
1. Assists students
for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading
and unloading from buses including both emergency situation and normal
transport.
2. Instruct
students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining safety.
3. Monitors student
behavior for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to
themselves or other students/passengers.
4. Monitors
students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant,
parent etc. for the purpose of ensuring the students’ safety.
5. Prepares
documentation (e.g. incident reports, inspections, student count, passenger
misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying
information.
6. Reports
observations and / or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate
social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to
appropriate personnel.
7. Attends meetings
(e.g. training, inservice, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and / or
conveying information to perform job functions.
8. Performs other
related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and
effective functioning of the work unit.

variety of non-essential functions consistent with the scope and intent of the
position. This position is contingent
upon availability of school funds.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to
perform single, non technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in
order to meet changing job conditions.
2.
Ability to apply basic methods and procedures to be followed in
controlling or modifying
behavior: and adhering to safety practices.
3. Ability to perform basic math; understand
written procedures, write routine documents and speak
Clearly.
4. Ability to understand multi-step written
and oral instructions; and approved
procedures/techniques
involved in supervising special students.
5. Ability to work with a wide diversity of
individuals and Native American Students.
6. Ability to work as part of a team;
exercising good judgement/discretion; and maintaining
Confidentiality
7.
Ability to physically perform the following; significant lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
Climbing and
balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and or crawling.
1. Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
or
2. Associate’s
degree in any field or
3. Met a rigorous
standard for quality demonstrated through a formal assessment.
4. Must be at least
21 years old.
5. Must have a
valid Washington State Driver’s license
1. Knowledge of
traditional Native American cultures and values
2. Experience
and/or training working with behavior disordered students
3. Two years
experience in similar position
