II.                  SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

 

This certificated position provides basic instruction in secondary education to middle and high school aged children utilizing teaching techniques that are consistent with school established objectives.

 

 

III.               RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A.    Essential Functions

 

 

1.       Communicates clearly in working with diverse teaching populations, both orally and in writing.

 

2.       Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to students.

 

3.       Administers all standardized tests as directed; develops SLO test as directed.

 

4.       Refers students with special needs to appropriate staff for additional educational assistance, in accordance with requirements of Public Law 94-142.

 

5.       Prepares lessons/activities and uses (DI) Direct Instruction lessons for each class.

 

6.       Regularly communicates with parents and/or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress.

 

7.       Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

 

8.       Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.

 

9.       Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and self-selected professional growth activities.

 

10.    Selects and requisitions books and materials, and maintains an inventory of purchased items.

 

11.    Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.

12.    Administers group standardized tests in accordance with School testing program.

 

13.    Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

 

14.    Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

 

15.    Works effectively with para-educators and other staff members.

 

16.    Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

B.    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

1.       Demonstrate commitment to the teaching profession and its code of ethics.

2.       Knowledge and skill in organizing the physical and human elements in the educational setting.

3.       Ability to work with and relate to American Indian children and serve as a positive role mode.

4.       Ability to organize facts and present them in a clear, concise and logical manner, both orally and in written form.

5.       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

6.       Demonstrate a thorough understanding of confidentiality and the ability to maintain it.

7.       Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

8.       Considerable knowledge of the techniques used in providing teaching instruction to American Indian students.

IV.                MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.       Bachelors Degree in Education

2.       Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement

3.       One year recent computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet formatting, and email

4.       Highly Qualified per No Child Left Behind

 

V.                  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.       One year teaching experience working as a full time certificated employee

2.       Experience in teaching diverse student populations

3.     Preferably working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations
