Hello, Chief Leschi Family. My name is Robert (Bob) Barnes and I am honored to introduce myself as Interim Cedar Lodge Director serving all 9th and 10th grade students, staff, and families. I was hired in mid-December as a part time guest administrator and then asked in January to stay on for the reminder of the school year to fill a lodge leader vacancy. My short time here at the school has been both challenging and rewarding. I appreciate and thrive on those two things and am excited to do my best to serve the entire school family.
A little about myself. I have lived nearly my entire life in the Puget Sound area and currently live in Silverdale, WA in Kitsap County. I am fortunate to be married to my beautiful and caring wife, Teresa, with whom we have our daughter, Kelsey. Teresa was an elementary special education teacher and school learning specialist for 25 years. When Kelsey entered 7th grade she decided to be a stay at home Mom and is currently a homemaker and daycare provider since birth for twin 3 yr. old girls. Our daughter, Kelsey, earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and teaching certification from Western Washington University in December, 2016. She is currently working as a guest teacher in several school districts and is looking forward to beginning her career as an Elementary General Music Teacher in the Fall. I also have two older daughters from a previous marriage, Mandy and Annalyse, who both live and work in the Silverdale area.
My passions are music and working with people. I earned my BA in Music Education from Western Washington University, MA in Music Education from Central Washington University, and K-12 Principal Certification from the University of Washington. I taught instrumental music at all levels in Moses Lake School District and Central Kitsap School District for many years and served as the District Music Coordinator in the CK School District. This led me to go into school administration. I was a high school assistant principal for 5 years and then served as the Olympic High School Principal for 13 years before retiring in June, 2013. Since retirement I have served as a guest administrator, Interim Director of West Sound Technical Skills Center in Bremerton, and Adjunct Professor at Western Washington University supervising students enrolled in the teacher education program. I am an active musician who continues to make music by playing trombone in the Tacoma Concert Band.
I am excited about being at Chief Leschi and having the opportunity to help continue the excellent work being done in moving the school forward and preparing our students for their future as well-educated, productive citizens. I am working hard to get to know the students as individuals and help them be as successful as possible at our school. Our staff is clearly committed to the goal of educating the whole child and I will work hard supporting that commitment. I am honored to be a part in this very important work.
