Welcome from our Eagle Lodge Leader
Eagle Lodge Leader
I have never heard an adult ask a child “What do you want to do when you grow up?” It is always, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Although the difference is small, I think it is important. I am an educator. It is who I am. That identity influences everything I do. And that is what I bring to the Salmon Lodge as the Lodge Leader: being here at Chief Leschi Schools is so much more than a job to me, it is who I am.
As I have been welcomed into the Leschi Ohana this summer, a few themes have surfaced again and again: culture, rigor, head and heart, whole child, two worlds, freedom. The students at Chief Leschi are standing at the intersection of the past and the future, and have an opportunity to both honor and embrace a rich cultural history while striving for the opportunities and freedoms provided by a rigorous education. I am honored to be given the chance to come alongside the students in the Salmon Lodge, to stand with them in the tension, and to help them move forward.
hawatubš čələp! Thank you for inviting me into your Ohana, for trusting me with your best children, for working with me to ensure their future!
