A Message From Our Superintendent, Marc Brouillet:
It is an honor and privilege to have the Puyallup Tribal Council and School Board to have confidence in the CLS Leadership Team and myself to provide a high-quality education to the students of the CLS community. Our focus is to realize the School Board adopted mission for Chief Leschi Schools, which is to Ensure Student Growth and Learning, in both culture and academics, for each student, as well as the vision for Chief Leschi Schools that strong native teachings be infused in a rigorous academic program, preparing our students to walk successfully in "two worlds".
This is being achieved through the intentional work of teachers, staff, and administrators, helping students meet and exceed grade-level standards using a research-based curriculum, instructional materials, and instructional practices. Students are assessed to determine their individual instructional skill levels in reading and math. Individualized academic and graduation plans are developed for each student. Based on the student’s individual plan, instruction and support are provided to address each students’ learning needs.
Instructional coaching is provided to teachers and staff, focusing on the best practices for instruction and curriculum implementation, allowing them to provide optimal instruction for our students.
As a result of this work, we are experiencing great success. The graduation rate at CLS has increased from 53% in 2018-19, to 73% in 2019-2020, to 92% in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, and most recently to 100% in 2022-23. These increases have resulted in CLS being named a Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) “Bright Spot School”. Additionally, Chief Leschi Schools earned national recognition receiving the U.S. Department of Education “Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Award. This award honors our innovative efforts to teach students how to care for the planet, reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability practices.
We embrace the responsibility of preparing the students of Chief Leschi Schools to “walk in two worlds” and have a successful future after their graduation.
Sincerely,
Marc Brouillet,
Superintendent
