Welcome from Enrollment
Welcome to Chief Leschi Schools!
Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child(ren) in Chief Leschi Schools. We have many quality offerings for your child that enhance their opportunity to achieve academic success while embracing their Native culture.
Chief Leschi is a Puyallup Tribe as well as a BIE and grant-funded school. The Chief Leschi School Board is committed to providing quality education for all students by maintaining class sizes and insuring availability of services needed. Children enrolled in Chief Leschi School will be provided educational services without cost for tuition or fees.
The School Board adheres to a policy of non-discrimination in enrollment, except for Indian Preference. Therefore, the following priority system will be utilized in determining acceptance to Chief Leschi School.
- Priority One: Enrolled member of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.
- Priority Two: *ISEP (Indian School Equalization Program) eligible Native American child.
- Priority Three: Native descendent child of an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe and a biological parent; but the child is not enrolled (Non_ISEP).
- Priority Four: Non-ISEP child.
*ISEP Eligibility is determined by either being an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe or having a Certification of Indian Blood (CIB) issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs indicating blood quantum greater than ¼.
Children enrolled in Early Childhood Programs (i.e. F.A.C.E. and ECEAP) operated at Chief Leschi does not guarantee enrollment into the School. Upon reaching kindergarten age they must enroll based on the priorities listed above.
Reenrollment of Non-ISEP children will be evaluated each year and acceptance will be based on class size and capacities of programs.
The superintendent will establish class size and capacities of programs to ensure the best possible educational opportunities for students attending Chief Leschi School.
The School Board based on the established class size, capacities of programs and current enrollment numbers will determine opening or closing priorities for enrollment as necessary.
Upon receiving the application, records will be requested from the previous school (grades and/or transcript, attendance, behavior report, as well as any Special Services if applicable) and your child’s application will be reviewed and considered for enrollment at Chief Leschi Schools. While we will do our best to expedite the process, we ask that you keep your child enrolled in their present school to avoid a gap in the end and start date. This especially pertains to the beginning of the school year.
