Summer Slide

Summer Slide

Our 2019-20 school year starts September 4th! 😱 Less than two months of summer left! Summer is a great time for family fun and vacations, but research shows that summer can be a time where students lose what they learned the previous school year. It's been dubbed the "Summer Slide." 😣 To combat the summer slide, read our tips below!

📚 Mix in learning with family trips! Bring a book on your trip, have your child(ren) calculate the distance and how long it'll take you to get to your destination, give your child(ren) a map so they can keep track of landmarks or cities they see!

📚 Take advantage of resources around your community! These museums are free every third Thursday:

📚 As part of the resources around your community, visit your local library regularly and have your child pick out a book! See the fun activities happening at Pierce County Library and/or Tacoma Public Library!

📚 Read a book before bedtime! Reading a book before bedtime is a great way to relax after a day of summer fun, and it's a great way to bond with your child as well.

I didn't know my library did that?!
