REMINDER: COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for CLS Employees and Students Participating in Extracurricular Sports/Activities
CLS families this is an important announcement in regards to student-athletes and proof of vaccination!
Chief Leschi Schools is requiring proof of athletes' first round of vaccination for the Pfizer or Moderna by September 24th in order to continue practicing any current fall sports. This needs to be a photocopy of the front and back of your card and has to be turned into the head coach and or athletic department to be filed for clearance to continue sports participation before practice on Monday, September 27th.
If you are choosing Johnson and Johnson which is not provided by PTHA you have a deadline of 10/15/21 to show proof of vaccination or you will no longer be able to participate.
If a student already has a full vaccination that photocopy proof is also due by the same deadline of September 24th but preferably as soon as possible to ensure further participation.
All winter and spring sport athletes also need to have FULL PROOF of vaccination turned in before their first practice date which is November 15th. No athlete will be allowed to practice or participate in winter or spring without full proof of vaccination already completed.

Dear CLS Parents and Families,
I am writing to share information about a new student requirement for Chief Leschi Schools. Puyallup Tribal Council approved a new policy requiring all Chief Leschi Schools employees and students participating in extracurricular sports/activities to have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or an approved medical exemption.
The directive means that all Chief Leschi Schools employees, including athletic coaches, volunteers, contractors in regular contact with students, and students participating in extracurricular sports/activities will be required to be fully vaccinated by October 29, 2021 (you must be at least 14 days past the last dose of the applicable COVID-19 vaccine regimen by the date listed in the chart included in this message).
There are options to request a medical exemption/accommodation.
Please note that this announcement will not delay our return to school buildings this fall. Our first day of school will continue to be on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
Some of the key elements of the vaccination requirement are outlined below:
The Puyallup Tribe of Indians Tribal Council has established this directive. The Administration and the School Board do not have decision-making authority over this matter.
Students may request an exemption/accommodation if they cannot meet the requirement due to a medical reason. Please contact the Athletic Director, Scott Halasz, 445-6000 ext. 3052, to discuss the requirements of a vaccination medical exemption/accommodation request.
There is not an option to undergo regular testing for COVID-19 instead of receiving a vaccination or medical exemption accommodation.
The information you provide regarding the vaccination will be a confidential record.
It does not replace the current requirement for all students, staff, and visitors to wear face coverings in schools and on school buses.
Vaccination is the most effective tool we have in combatting COVID-19. The currently approved COVID-19 vaccines are free, safe, and continue to undergo the most intense safety monitoring in U.S. history. Millions of Americans have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Our collective goal of safely providing in-person education to students remains the same. This announcement will not delay our return to school buildings this fall, and unvaccinated students should continue to come to school and practice while in the process of becoming fully vaccinated.
