National Principals Month

Posted 10/4/21

October is National Principals Month that recognizes the essential role that principals play in making our school a great place to be. While often principals are the hardest working, yet usually least recognized in education, we are taking the time to honor the 5 great principals and assistant principals that serve an important role in our schools.

On our elementary side, Principals Kathryn Yates and Darin Adams lead alongside Assistant Principal Jenifer Leavens. Yates has served many different roles before becoming one of our elementary principals, most recently she was in charge of our award-winning Early Childhood Education and FACE program. Adams has been in education for over 30 years as a principal for elementary, middle, and high school. In addition, he also enjoys working for the Seattle Mariners. Leavens is our new assistant principal, and in the 10 years she has been as an educator, she has been a teacher, coach, and Dean of Students.

On our secondary side, we have two very familiar faces. Principal Jennifer Vasilez started her journey at Chief Leschi Schools when she was just 18 years old. Before becoming our secondary principal, Vasilez was a teacher and Dean of Students. Kelsey May is our new secondary assistant principal. She started her career at Leschi in 2012 as a Spanish teacher before going on to work in other tribal communities.

We raise our hands to our principals and all that they do for our school community!
