National Bullying Prevention Month

Posted 10/6/2021

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a month-long event dedicated to spreading information about how to prevent childhood bullying and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. At CLS, our counselors are meeting with our students to teach students different skills this month about how to respond to bullying and how to build safe, respectful, and fun communities. Our elementary counselors will also be supporting staff members with teaching conflict resolution schools using the Time Machine from Conscious Discipline! This includes teaching children how to assertively handle name-calling, teasing, pushing, distraction, and other interpersonal conflicts with the fun graphics and simple steps provided on this helpful tool.

  • Step 1: Rollback time
  • Step 2: Ask for willingness
  • Step 3: Be a S.T.A.R. (Smile, take a deep breath, and relax)
  • Step 4: Wish each other well
  • Step 5: Focus on the goal and unify
  • Step 6: Coach the children to use helpful words
  • Step 7: Offer a connection to show there are no hard feelings
